Fred A. Brewer, Jr.
I am currently serving as an interim (At-Large) member of the Gloucester County School Board, having been appointed in March to fill an unexpired term. My service includes representing the Board on the following Subcommittee Assignments:

-
Gloucester Education Foundation
-
GCPS Policy Review Committee
-
Gifted Education Advisory Committee
-
Board Representative to New Horizons Regional Education Center
-
Board Representative to the Education Advisory Committee of the Hampton Roads Telecommunications Association/WHRO-TV
I present myself to the community as an ardent supporter of public education. I believe this statement to be substantiated most visibly by my twelve years of service as a member of the Hampton School Board. It was my honor and privilege to serve as Chairman of the HCS Board for five of those years.

My wife and I are parents of four grown children. All were educated in public schools. All were well prepared for higher education upon graduation.

Since 2019, Gloucester has been home for us. Amongst the reasons for the move: two of our grandchildren are here and attending GCPS.

I recognize the importance of good School Board governance to the strength and vitality of our community. If elected to this important role, my goal is to work in the spirit of collegiality and professionalism alongside fellow Board Members, parents, teachers and community members.
Our shared mission: to assure the best possible educational experience for our children, while being good stewards of the taxpayers' money.

Past experience:
-
Involved in the planning and construction of two PreK-8 schools:
-
Participated in the search and hiring of three school superintendents, and conducted annual performance reviews of the Superintendent, Clerk of the School Board, and School Board Attorney.
-
Actively engaged in the annual review and approval of the school division’s budget.
-
Represented the school division on the National School Boards Association's Federal Relations Network.
-
Awarded the Virginia School Boards Association’s Award of Distinction for "commitment to effective school board governance through participation in the VSBA School Board Academy".
